Clifton Fire Destroys City House Near Water Works
A residence owned by Z. D. Davis and family, east of the railroad near the water works in Clifton, was destroyed by fire around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The lamp spill caused the blaze. total loss with no insurance. The Clifton Volunteer Fire Company fought the flames as gusty winds and dryness prevented saving the home or contents.

Ed Lund formerly an engineer at Hotel Worth was found at dusk yesterday slumped on a cut back of the hotel suffering from the heat. He died at Medical College Hospital about six o clock. Clifton's First Bale Marketed Near Town by Standefer
John L. Standefer brought in Clifton's first bale of cotton for the season from the Clifton and Meridian road seven miles north of town. It was ginned Tuesday morning by Model Gin free and sold to Show Bros. for 15.35, weighing 447 pounds. A $25.50 premium, raised by local businessmen, was presented to Standefer. The bale's base value was $107.55.

Lawn Party at Methodist Church Delights Community
One of the season’s most enjoyable socials was held on the lawn of the Methodist church last Friday evening. Recitations by Lena Snell Pauline Creel Ira Cawthorn of Valley Mills and Pauline Hill of Meridian pleased the audience. Clyde Hill’s song drew enthusiasm and refreshments of cake and cream were served. Guests departed with a generous free will offering.
