Madison Alexander Cooper Jr. wrote a two and a half foot thick manuscript about Sironia Texas. After years of secrecy and coding, he sent the first 300 pages to Houghton Mifflin in 1951 and then the rest as interest grew. The book became a New York Times bestseller and earned multiple awards before Cooper’s death in 1956.
