Local town celebrates report of Japan's surrender on Tuesday. A separate farm incident ends in tragedy as Lawrie, a Bosque County resident, is found dead after his wife Minnie Lowen dies from injuries at the farm. Funeral services are noted for Mr Lowrie with interment in Cleburne cemetery.
Clifford V. Brosstad reports a medical training event at a hospital in Tronston Texas and a botched appendectomy along with patient details. Myrthca Nygward of Lovet hospital underwent an appendectomy on Sunday. Names, places, and relations are listed with uncertain spellings and fragmented phrases.
A local gathering at City Hall marked the war era peace commemoration with Mayor Bronsted and Rev Gigstad presiding. Dr. G W Nichol delivered the keynote on wartime tributes, while tributes to soldiers and the Potsdam declaration framed the event.
Grimland family members gathered for a reunion at the home of Mex Jeanie Wallace on Sunday August 2. Five brothers and three sisters of the twelve living children attended with other relatives. Morning worship at Our Baylor’s Lutheran Church concluded the event with a sermon on faith from Matthew 21 36 41, tenors and solos including a quartet performance.
Dr W T Gooch Baylor University leader spoke on the atomic bomb at the Clifton Lions Club meeting. He explained the bomb’s impact and role in allied victory, highlighting the scientific and wartime context while addressing civic observers and local officials.
Local officials anticipate Congress action ending armed conscription soon, removing draft boards from duty. Registrants must await official notice, then the boards will be discharged and registrants relieved from requirements.
Technical Sergeant Edwin P Conrad, 22, son of Mr and Strs Pack L Conrad, is assigned to the AAP Redistribution Station No 4 at Santa Ana Army Air Base. He entered service May 7 1941 and went overseas February 1945. He is entitled to wear the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the European Theater Medal with three battle stars. He will receive complete medical exams and reassignment to domestic Army Air Force stations.
This week eight more servicemen are welcomed back to civilian life: Arthur P. Bronetad Clifton Roscoe N. Sparks Clifton Jodie W. Amundson Clifton Dudley C. Callan Valley Mi Jodie C. Samwolson Crantills Gap John L. Lambert Clifton Anselm M Thirs Je Valley Mille J Frank Howard Valley Milla. A large family reunion picnic at the club house in the local park Saturday drew many relatives including Marvin D. Coffman Big Spring Lydia Roth Harris Dal Lux Clyde Hays Parlane Burnett and Bettye Frances and children Fohmmie Suzanne Men Payne Frances Edward Lucille Ellison of Waco and others.
Charlie Cables, formerly of Hosaue County, died after his truck collided with another at an intersection in Brownsville on Saturday morning August 2. He died about a half hour later. His wife and two young sons were visiting relatives in Martiner and attended the funeral in Brewnrville with family. Interment was planned for Monday.
