Hurricane Celia Touches Texas Coast Area

The storm brought light rain dust and wind gusts to Clifton area with no reported damage locally. Cedar Shores resident Pat Crow says wind blew a porch from the Bradshaw home into the Jentz yard and knocked out windows at another residence near Lake Whitney.

Earn A Bike Contest Winners Highlight Clifton Record Drive

After two weeks Basque area youths sold subscriptions for The Clifton Record and seven earned bikes. Donald Carpenter and Sharon Culp were early bike winners, followed by Beth Conrad, Mary Jo Ray, Larry Don Townley, and Debbie Dreyer. Of 36 participants, 27 are boys and 9 are girls, with girls holding the higher production average. Entries run until August 22 noon with all funds due. prices rise September 1 for county and out of area subscribers.

Hill-Burton Grant Funds 64-Bed Clifton Hospital

Department of HEW awards $789,973 Hill-Burton grant for construction of a 64 bed general hospital in Clifton. Total project cost $1,759,946. Recipients include Goodall-Witcher Hospital. Information released by Congressman Poage’s office and Senator Tower.

Norse Church Women Mark 74th Anniversary

CHS Band Rehearsals Begin August 10

CHS Band rehearsals for the 1970-71 school year start Monday August 10 from 8 to 10 a.m. for grades 8 through 12. Band director Mel Cowan urges instrument checks for school owned horns and rent money due. Cal l band hall at 675-6494 or home 675-8228 to help prepare the band hall for rehearsals.

National Guard Returns From Ft Hood Top Unit Score

Clifton and Stephenville units led the Texas National Guard with the highest Brigade score during ATT training maneuvers at Fort Hood. Company A earned the top First Battalion score, as the battalion led all three battalions in the 71st Brigade. A Clifton Record staffer recalls day by day drills under simulated battle conditions with heavy enemy fire and airborne assignments at the marshalling area.

Clifton Cardinals Fall In State Playoffs Opener

Clifton Cardinals dropped a 3-1 decision to Snyder in the Texas Teen-Age League State Playoffs at Sweetwater. Pitcher Donald Cannuteson is expected to start Wednesday as Clifton fights to stay alive in the double-elimination tourney after earlier state-qualifying wins.
