Brownwood Texas July 29 Gulf Coast rice fields near Bay City may be watered by an impounded lake nearly 500 miles away, the longest irrigation project in Texan history. Water sold by Brown County Water Improvement District to the Gulf Coast Water Company will travel 490 miles down the Colorado River to Matagorda and Wharton counties for field irrigation.
