Guard Unit Rates Well With Brass at Fort Hood

Clifton's National Guard Heavy Mortar Company of the 143rd Infantry Regiment completed a two week summer camp at Fort Hood with 71 Bosque County soldiers. The unit showcased heavy weapons in a Hill Easy demonstration and received praise from 36th Division leaders. Members qualified as mortar crew, rocket launcher specialists, and instructors in CB R training, while others completed intelligence and bayonet courses.

Local guard attracts new recruits in July joining before August start

P. D. Wallace and Gene Ashcraft joined the local guard unit on Monday July 25. Commanding Officer Douglas Railsback urged young men to enlist now, noting the next recruit training period begins August 15 and those who join by then will train together in the same class.

VA and FHA tighten home loan rules for GI buyers

The Veterans Administration and Federal Housing Administration announce new down payment and repayment terms for government backed mortgages. GI loan buyers must provide at least a 2 percent down payment and a maximum 25 year repayment, replacing the prior no down payment and up to 30 year terms. The changes are non retroactive and exclude certain types of repairs or replacement loans.
