Texas Highway Patrolman James Wright reports two automobile accidents Thursday near Clifton including a 1960 Ford Thunderbird wreck at Meridian Creek Bridge. Also noted is an attempted burglary at Fount Benfer’s East 5th Street home Wednesday morning.

All-Star Football Game Broadcast From Houston

The 34th annual Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star game will be aired from Rice Stadium in Houston beginning at 7 45 p m Thursday night on WACO radio. James W Haywood of Clifton is named among the football stars in the 1966 graduate group with Clifton fans and local coaches attending the event.

Huley Named New Lone Star Gas Manager at Clifton

Louis Bonner Huley Jr. takes over as Clifton Local District manager of Lone Star Gas, succeeding the late Henry Carr. He began duties in Clifton as the transfer takes effect September 1, coming from Whitney where he served as Service Representative. The family plans to move to Clifton as housing is found.

Welding Short Course Taught For Local Farmers

A four night farm welding short course ran Monday to Thursday at Clifton High School on the Vocational Agriculture Building. Ten area farmers attended 7 30 to 10 30 each night with instructor Joel R Barton of the Texas Education Agency and Texas A&M University guiding sessions and assisting on farms during the day. Certificates from the Texas Education Agency were issued upon completion.

City Softball Scores Highlight Weekend Play

Softball action in the City Softball League saw Womack Coyote defeat Clif Tex Manufacturing 17 to 0 on Friday. Clifton beat Cranfills Gap 5 to 3, and Clifton 10 Clif Tex 4 later that week. Womack Coyote edged Crawfills Gap 10 to 9 on Tuesday. Due to the All-Star Football Game, Clif Tex Crawfills Gap and Womack Coyote Clifton games moved to Saturday with next week schedule noting Crawfills Gap versus Clifton and Womack Coyote versus Clif Tex.

Clifton Ladies Attend American Legion Auxiliary Convention

Mrs. Alex Anderson and Mrs. Ernest Giese attended the American Legion Auxiliary Department Convention in Corpus Christi from July 21 to 24. Anderson represented Selmer Erickson Unit 322 Clifton and Giese Cunningham Unit 222 Hamilton. Giese served on the reception house party honoring Mrs. Jack W. Flynt, who was elected Department president for 1966 67, with her husband named Department Commander. The Flynts reside in the 18th District Fourth Division at Dimmitt.

Clifton Police Report Traffic Citations For Week

Clifton Chief Eldon J Forbess reports the week of July 24 to July 30 issued one improper starting citation one speeding citation and one excessive noise citation. There were no reportable accidents in the city during the period.

John Bell Dies From Polk County Crash Injuries

John Bell 49 of Beaumont died about midnight Tuesday at Methodist Hospital Houston from head injuries after a car crash six miles west of Corrigan Polk County Saturday afternoon July 16. His wife Vera Krueger died in the same accident. Their daughter Wanda 11 and relatives in Clifton were en route when the tragedy occurred. Funeral arrangements were pending.
