Norwegian-Texan Pioneer Shefstead Family in Clifton History
The Shefsteads came to Bosque County from Kaufman County shortly after the Civil War and settled on the J. B. Ledlow place near Clifton. Mrs. Shefstead, maiden name Ingeborg Vatne Lyndahl born 1834 in Norway, aided settlers as a nurse and midwife during the war and epidemic, spoke no English, and helped secure releases to bring men home. She died October 15, 1920, leaving descendants in Clifton, Morgan, Meridian, and nearby towns.
