Clifton Lions Celebrate Tenth Anniversary

Clifton Lions mark a decade with a Tuesday evening gathering in Clifton. About eighty members and guests attended at Shaper hall as Lima President V. D. Goodal presided and honored charter members. Attendees included Ed Mand Teg D. C. Halverson J. M. Semon J. Baldridge and others. The meal featured barbecue chicken and Trinity Lutheran Church ladies provided service. Entertainment included Charley McCarthy and six Clifton young ladies. more details continue on last page.

Alleged Rug Fakers Reported in Texas City

Citizens of Galasuit complained to the FBI about rug fakers selling seven rugs for a total of 000 dollars and two genuine pieces later altered to lower value. Operators listed a Main Street Dallas address and a local merchant’s name as part of the scheme. The story notes a pattern of fake Oriental rugs entering the market.

Passing of Clarence P Dahl in Turkey Creek area

Clarence Pernell Dahl died Monday afternoon after fainting while woodcutting with his nephew Owen Gurtis Dahl by Neills Creek south of his home. Born October 2, 1897, he leaves Stella Taylor, daughter Janey Merle, parents Chr H Dahl, and four brothers. Funeral held at the family home and Norse Lutheran Church with many relatives and friends in attendance.

Former Clifton Citizen Dies In Belton Tuesday

W. L. Moore, a former Clifton resident, died at his daughter’s home in Belton on Tuesday morning. He was 78 years old. The body was brought to Clifton for interment at Copperas Cave with Rev. officiating.

Senator Tom proposes war tax boosts during conflict

Washington reports a introduced measure by Senator Tom Connally a Democrat from Texas to tax up to 80 percent in wartime. The plan would auto take effect if the U S enters war raising corporate and income taxes lowering personal exemptions to 800 for single and 1600 for married. The tax would start at 10 percent with a surtax beginning at 6 percent on the first 1000 over exemptions and climb to 80 percent.
