Voters in Clifton elected new aldermen and officers in a local election. The results show Anca Wal, Hilwin Grimes, C. D. Bionstad, FE Wendl, and Arche O. Nel as elected officials with W. boson recused from a seat. The council will convene Monday for official duties.
The War Department and the American Bar Association announce free legal aid for soldiers. Commissioned officers and volunteer civilian lawyers will handle cases abroad and at home via correspondence. Civilian lawyers will represent soldiers in civil and military courts, with aid available through state associations, at the discretion of commanding officers.
The local Ren area Baptist church unanimously called Rex Baskin and his family to serve as pastor at Clift Baytixt Church. Rex Baskin and wife will assume duties soon, with trusted associates to assist in teaching and outreach. The church notes the Head wd repo and Mrs. Baakie as part of church leadership in transition.
Mrs Emma Glaff aged about sixty four died Monday night at her home here following a brief illness. The deceased had lived in Springmont for many years moving here with her two daughters after her husband Jol Held was killed in a South Texas accident. Surviving are daughters Anna and Clara Glott, son Robert Glott, and three grandchildren Dorrie Gene Don and Bettie Ann Glott. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Pauls Lutheran Church with Rev Rudolph Becker and interment in the Eastan Cemetery. Out of town relatives attending included Mr and Mrs Harmel and children Dan Lucille and Robert Harmel of Menargil Miss John Harmel of Seymour, Mr and Mrs Orton Dyntel and Mrs Valencia Valle.
The nation wide speed limit has reduced rural road speeds. About fifty seven per cent traveled above 18 miles per hour previously and ninety one per cent exceeded the limit a year ago. Enforcement had limited effect but the 40 mile per hour limit cut average speeds. The federal order, effective last October, dropped the average from around 70 to about 87 miles per hour.

The War Department halted discharge of men over 38 and ordered their transfer to an inactive statue in the enlisted reserve OAD. To qualify, the man must request inactive status for entry into an essential industry and obtain a War Manpower Commission statement indicating release is desired. He will be recalled on request of the War Manpower Commission.
