No More Negroes May We Send to Gatesville

Austin, Texas April 1 Dr H H Harriman chairman of the State Board of Control announced the board will not accept any more negro youths at the State Juvenile Training School at Gatesville where about 175 black boys are among 900 inmates. The decision rests on Article 6125 Revised Statutes designating Gatesville for white boys and Article 6123 designating Ferguson State Reform School for delinquent negro boys. Overcrowding concerns and potential exclusion of white youths also influenced the ruling.
