Bosque County 4-H Elimination Contests Held in Meridian

Bosque County 4-H elimination contests were held at Meridian Public School on Saturday March 31 with winners advancing to the District Eliminations on April 14 in Stephenville. Winners include senior and junior landscape plant identification teams from Crawfills Gap Meridian and Clifton, dairy foods demonstrations, vegetable preparation, poultry marketing, electric demonstrations, and soil water and range conservation. Second place teams serve as alternates. livestock judging teams for senior and junior divisions were also named from Clifton Meridian Crawfills Gap and Diana Sonntag.

Spence Family Involved In Clifton Car Crash

Mrs R T Spence and children Stony Keith Paula and Robin were in a Friday afternoon crash on the Wichita Falls highway near Henrietta. Stony Keith, 5, suffered the worst injuries and was treated in Hen rietta and Clifton hospitals before transfer to Baylor Dallas for liver and lung injuries plus pneumonia. Mrs Spence and two children sustained bruises and cuts. The Ford vehicle was a total loss. the family was en route to Altus Oklahoma to visit relatives. Mr Spence is a Rainbow Bread salesman.

J T Martin Dies At Mosheim

Funeral services for John Thomas Martin 86 of Mosheim were held at the Mosheim Methodist Church with graveside rites at White Church Cemetery in Glen Rose. He died April 1 at his Mosheim home after 30 years there. Survived by wife four sons six daughters two half brothers two half sisters 34 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren.

John Trotter, son of Mr and Mrs Ben Trotter, remains a patient in the local hospital since April 1. Arne Orbeck returned home in the Norse community this week after initial hospital treatment. Sue Snider and Mr and Mrs L H Boleman visited Auburn McFadden in Kings Daughter Hospital in Temple following a major operation. he is convalescing. Mrs McFadden is a cousin of Mrs Boleman.

Conrad Trotter Working On Deal In Meridian

Conrad of Clifton and Hugh H. Trotter of Meridian are negotiating the sale of Trotter Feed and Grain in Meridian. May 1 is targeted for closing with Conrad buying the feed cleaners and mill, while Trotter retains the grain elevators and trucks. Wendell Burden of Texas Milling is expected to run the business for Conrad.

Contract Set For Seal Coating Across Eight Texas Counties

The Texas Highway Commission awarded a 439 259 contract to Jeff Richards now of Belton for 321 miles of seal coat work across eight counties Bosque Bell Coryell Falls Hamilton Hill Limestone and McLennan. District Engineer Thomas Collier of Waco and Highway Department Engineer Walter Ruff will supervise the project expected to take about 100 working days.

Clifton High School earned 14 of 20 entries in the District 16 A Literary Meet at Baylor University in Waco with seven schools competing. Windham Dies in Clifton Texas at 83

W T Windham aged 83 10 months 13 days died in an Austin hospital after a heart condition and pneumonia. He farmed near Jonesboro and left two sons Henry and Jessie and four daughters. Funeral services were held April 3 at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Clifton Cemetery.

Dorward Undergoes Surgery. Clifton and Baylor Link

Russell Dorward a Clifton native and Baylor student had surgery at the local hospital on Saturday March 31. He is the son of Mr and Mrs M D Dorward who live on Star Route 1 Clifton. Dr Minah Hansen and Mrs Byron Kern of Dallas visited with the Hansen family from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday morning. Miss Cora Ray, residing at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home, was admitted as a medical patient on March 31.

Clif-Tex to Add Production Line and 35 Jobs in Clifton

Clif-Tex Manufacturing Co. of Clifton plans a new production line to boost employment by at least 35 workers. The move follows strong demand for coveralls, sportswear, and leisurewear, with Victor Conrad and George Walls guiding expansion. Hiring tests began in Waco with about 35 qualified applicants expected. Production should commence in about two weeks, with space constraints noted as the third line will use all available room.

Lake Contest Will Have Record Entries

A record number of young women entered the tenth annual Lake Whitney Beauty Pageant to be held April 27 and 28 in Hillsboro. Entries come from ten Central Texas towns in the Junior Contest while Hillsboro, Whitney, Hubbard and other communities file Miss Universe entrants. No entry or sponsor fees are required and applications are available from the Hillsboro Jaycees or Lake Whitney Association.

Relatively Light Vote in City Election Winners Named

Eldon Zimmerman Ottis Tyler and W L Spieler won City Council seats in the Tuesday election with a light turnout of 213. Zimmerman led with 164 votes, Tyler 157, Spieler 120, while Ashcraft and Lormrude also received votes. Retiring councilmen were Caldwell Blewett and Albrecht.

Tragedy Strikes Clifton Area Family in Highway 277 Crash

Mrs H D Mackey of west of Clifton learned her brother M M Webb 49 and his wife Ona Webb 43 were killed in a head on collision on Highway 277 about 35 miles south of Abilene. The Webbs left for Abilene after the news. Funeral services were held Wednesday. The Webbs are survived by three married children and two at home. Charles Gant of Route 1 Blum was admitted to the Clifton hospital as a medical patient April 3.

Prices listed Thursday morning for Clifton buyers reflect Wednesday auction results. Eggs ranged 24c per dozen for large, 21c for medium and B large, 15c for wire eggs, cream 40c per pound, oats 70c per bushel, milling wheat $1.80, spring wheat $1.50, rye $1.85, barley 9c, shelled corn $1.25 per bushel, ear corn $1.10. Approximately 435 head of cattle offered. market fully steady to strong with last week.
