Washington June 23 Robert Lansing long time counselor at the state department was named secretary of state to succeed William Jennings Bryan. The White House announced the appointment after Lansing accepted offered the post and a recess commission was signed by President Wilson. Lansing, 50, is former son in law of John Woster former secretary of state.

Ford Plunges Over Embankment Near Bailey
A Ford driven by William Ackley of Boardman and carrying Patrick Lynch of Pottsville and an unidentified man plunged over a Bailey embankment on the Clearfield Currensville road shortly after noon. Lynch was seriously injured while the other two occupants were shaken up. The car rolled twice and landed bottom-side up on a lower road. A Clearfield wrecking car righted the vehicle and brought it to the city. Lynch was taken to Clearfield hospital.

Barn Near Center Destroyed By Fire At Bailey Farm
The barn on the Abraham Bailey farm near Center burned down at 4 30 Tuesday afternoon. The loss is partly covered by insurance. This is the second barn fire in two years.
