Expect a bitter short session fight when lawmakers return January 4 with administration supporters aiming to restrain Republican and militaristic Democratic opposition. Real estate transfers include Edward Viebahn to Jurms Viebnam in Bigler for 9000 dollars, Hugh McCullough to Anthony Dogmss in Sandy for 273 dollars, and Madera Coal and Imp Co to Joseph Alexander in Bigler for 242 dollars.

Train Collision Narrows Escape Near Brookville

Three pets and six members of one family narrowly escaped injury when a Pennsylvania railroad crossing accident occurred at Brookville at 2 o clock Monday afternoon. D. M. Wiley and Mrs Wiley suffered internal injuries or broken ribs while Miss Marea Wiley and others were bruised or hurt. The family members, including three daughters and a son, were found at home unharmed apart from minor injuries.

Burglary Strikes DuBois Store Office Early Week

Robbers broke into William Monzia's retail office in DuBois between Monday night and Tuesday morning. They ransacked desks, searched the building, and tried to set the place afire, but a cold draft from an open window thwarted the flames. No money was taken.

Hobson Amendment Defeated in House Vote

Washington December 20 The Hobson Amendment to submit a constitutional national prohibition amendment to state legislatures failed in the House by 197 to 159. The affirmative vote fell short of the two thirds required to adopt the resolution.

England Guards Coast Against German Invasion

London's east coast line is fortified with trenches from Hendon to Epping and along the Thames. For three months invasion fears persist as half a million men are stationed from Dover to Leith with seasoned regiments on duty. Coast defenses include ships, Sea Easy Scouts, signaling systems, and artillery. Scotland and Ireland reported fortifications.
