Thanksgiving Sermon at Stanton United Presbyterian

The annual Thanksgiving sermon was preached in Stanton by Rev. J. C. Hanley, president of Lees Collegiate Institute in Jackson, Kentucky. After services, Hanley and companions attended multiple dinners with local families, with hospitality and generous feasts noted throughout the day. The writer anticipates December to be the best month of 1919.

Thanksgiving Dormitory Notes From Stanton Teachers

Thanksgiving vacation brought rest and dinners, with many students returning to tasks at the College. Several residents from Breathitt, Wolfe, Lee, Zachariah, and Bourbon counties stayed in Stanton, praising their holidays. Teachers visiting the J. P. School at Frenchburg reported a pleasant and profitable break.

Rucker Place Sold at Public Sale

The Bucker place was sold at public sale in this city Friday afternoon as advertised. H. G. Crabtree became the purchaser at 435.00 dollars. The property is valuable mainly for the lots which lie adjoining other property of Mr. Crabtree. Possession will be given January 1, 1920.

Laborers from Maben visit for work offers

Here After Laborers Botier Stewart of Maben West Virginia visited Saturday and Sunday. Hult Derichxon and a Mr Day sought fifty Crowe cases to go ten miles to labor in Lexington. They were said to be in the big new mill and were offered four dollars per day for dinner at the Phoenix with ten hour shifts.

Sheriff Busy Monday at Stanton on court day and tax deadline

Sheriff Wm Garrett was a busy figure Monday in Stanton as county court day coincided with the final tax payment deadline before a six percent penalty. The Times notes many residents rushed to avoid the penalty while delinquents are being served notices in this issue.

London visitors Mr Thos Fale and Mr Clint Bowman installed a Hawkins patented acetylene gas lighting outfit at the Company Store and sold one to The Times to be installed from the Louisville factory. Hale will cover Powell Estill and Lee counties and an ad appears in this issue.

Child Dies in Cincinnati from Scarlet Fever

Six year old Buleh Patton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Patton, died in Cincinnati Sunday morning of scarlet fever. Burial at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Cincinnati. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ben Mastin. Authorities would not allow the body to be brought home due to contagion concerns.

Price rises noted amid sugar beet report

The Department of Agriculture reports sugar beets produced in 1919 rose by 800000 pounds from 1918 and by 1120000 and 1160000 from 1917 and 1916 respectively, while beet prices to consumers were set higher.
