Northboro farmer survives plane crash near airport
Harold Scotton, a farmer near Northboro, escaped with minor injuries after his light airplane crashed Friday evening about 50 feet west of Schenck's Airport runway. The craft overturned in high grass. Scotton reportedly hung upside down in the cockpit for a time while unconscious before authorities helped him. He keeps the plane at his farm.

American Cancer Society volunteers from five counties attended a one day leadership conference in Clarinda. Twenty four workers spent the day with Wanda Rex of Ames and Marie Butts of Denison assisting host chairman Mrs Alfred Sump. Dr Frederick Sperry of Clarinda inspired the group with talks on causes and treatment and answered questions. The meeting planned cancer education programs at the county level and noted Iowa needs stronger public education to save lives of about 71 400 Iowans yearly and a forecast that one in three babies born this year will face cancer. Buzz groups formed to map county programs with attendees from East and West Page Montgomery Fremont and Taylor Counties.
