The city completed an economic exhibit 237 pages long weighing about three pounds. 136 parties received copies as Clarinda pursues CAB approval for feeder airline service to Washington. Central Airlines supports the project and a leading Washington law firm represents Clarinda with attorney Highsaw Jr. assigned to the case.

Clarindans Hold Annual Picnic At Wilmington Park
More than 150 Clarinda residents gathered at Banning Park in Wilmington California for a September picnic with a basket dinner and a business meeting. Herman Rope served as general chairman and Mary Richardson Hood was treasurer. The event began four years ago under Carl Rogers and continues the former neighbors tradition with Paul Morris newly elected general chairman for 1957 and Alice Bening Long assisting. Youth gets bench parole in court
Olin Remmert, oldest of nine youths, was sentenced to a year in county jail with bench parole by Judge Folsom Everest for malicious injury to property after a break in at West Center School near Shenandoah. Three other youths were paroled to Port Stitt. Clyde Gibson won a $180 judgment for weed spray damage. The same term included a divorce granted to William H Bennett and a no true bills grand jury report.

William Borthwick 18 son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Borthwick Cla rinda was named one of two winners of the Paxton Vierling Steel Missouri Valley Steel engineering scholarships at Iowa State College. The four year 2000 grant pays 500 yearly and renews through senior year. Sponsored by Paxton Vierling Steel Co Omaha and Missouri Valley Steel Co Sioux City with Iowa State College to train engineers for Midwest industry. Borthwick valedictorian of College Springs High School also served as class treasurer and editor of the school paper. He lettered in football and track and was president of the Amity Future Farmers of America chapter.

Local woman nabbed purse snatcher in Omaha incident
Mrs Marvin Sunderman chased a thief at the Omaha bus depot after his snatch stole 23 dollars from her billfold. Police praised her effort as the AWOL airman was detained near the Castle Hotel and identified. The report notes similar thefts in Omaha and nearby towns.

Orie Steeve's Mileaway Eileenmere 22 earned one blue and two red ribbons in Angus at the Kansas State Fair in Topeka. Mise Hileen of Mileway 305, a senior heifer calf, won her class. Mise Blackbird Progress of Lad- Orr placed second in her class. The 22's calves took second in the two-female one-bull group. In Nebraska State Fair judging last week the group also placed second in all three classes.
