Sergy Post 98 Wins Ray Murphy Trophy for Iowa Membership
Sergy Post No 98 American Legion led Iowa in 1956 membership quota by signing 235 members under Commander Marion Hashberger. The traveling Ray Murphy Trophy was presented to Adjutant Mason Williams at a recent meeting, with a plasticized wall plaque planned for display. The 1957 drive has begun with 61 cards issued.

Store founder's wife dies at 79 in Corning
Mrs Axel Peterson, 79, died Monday at Rosary Hospital Corning after a five year illness from a heart condition. Born in Sweden she lived mostly in Clarinda and with daughter Mrs Max Lines in Corning. Survivors include husband founder Ralph, two sons, two daughters, a brother Ed Shellquiest, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm Foster Harmon Williams Mortuary with Rev Lester Greenwood officiating. Interment in Clarinda Cemetery.

Clarinda city park hosts a picnic meeting for the lo-Ne-Mo Polled Hereford Association led by secretary Leslie Fox of Tingley. The group, formed to promote and sell in southwest Iowa eastern Nebraska and northwest Missouri, has 19 members and plans a March 15 1957 spring sale in Clarinda with Freddie Chandler as auctioneer and speakers from the National Polled Hereford Association plus entertainment and drinks provided by the regional group.
