Second Fire At City Dump Near Pasture In Clarinda
A second fire within 24 hours broke out at the Clarinda city dump Friday afternoon. Wind carried embers into a north pasture as eight firefighters battled the blaze with wet gunny sacks and booster-tank water. flames rose six to eight feet and were stopped about 300 yards north of the dump.

Wool Promotion Plan Endorsed by Majority of Producers
Nationwide wool and lamb promotion program approved in a referendum ending August 19. In 41 states the plan won strong backing, while Iowa Michigan Missouri New Mexico Oklahoma Pennsylvania and Texas fell short but will still participate. Total votes show 9 127 059 sheep favoring and 3 517 680 against equating to 72 2 percent in favor. Page county tallies show 12 for and 9 against. Financing comes from decrements on 1955 wool and lamb incentive payments, averaging one cent per pound on shorn wool and five cents per hundred pounds live weight for lambs and yearlings.

Pat Yearous, farmer of Mason Township, is hospitalized in St Joseph Missouri with a broken leg after his tractor overturned while filling a silo at the Kenneth Capsy farm northeast of New Market. Estel Glasgow’s tractor avoided damage. Yearous was transported by Walker Ambulance of Clarinda and is under a bone specialist care. Mrs Yearous accompanies him at the hospital.

Mrs May Bunting, 77, died Saturday morning at Clarinda Bowen Hospital after 17 years bedridden. She lived in Shambaugh and College Springs areas. Martha Jane Brown died at Municipal Hospital at 3 45 pm Friday aged 63. Funeral services were held Monday at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Arthur Marston and Rev GR McGrighy officiating. Mart Miller 72 of Clarinda died Saturday at Sunnyslope Sanitorium Ottumwa. His remains were returned to Clarinda for funeral at Walker Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 pm. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. He is survived by wife Nora a daughter Mrs Maxine Collings and brother Libby Miller.

Garfield fifth and sixth grades will report to the old junior high kindergarten building Tuesday at 9 am announced by Supt Joe Burnham.
