May 29 reports list Elaine Greiman daughter of Mr and Mrs as valedictorian with 3.73 average. Lourie Cundiff of Clarinda holds 3.59 and Phil Burks of Clarinda 3.56. Other notes include town police actions for intoxication and related fines.
Jroy Collins and his wife were seriously hurt in a Sunday morning crash on a rural road near Cameron Missouri. They were taken to St Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City with head injuries. Mrs Collins briefly regained consciousness. surgeons planned aftercare once bleeding subsides. The couple, en route to Windsor for a reunion, collided with another car amid unclear factors. relatives in Des Moines and Chillocothe were notified.
Mrs King dies after seven months illness at Clarinda Hospital ending Friday. Born in Albia Iowa she lived in Burlington Town five years and served as a real estate agent in Clarinda for 34 years. Funeral at Foster Harmon Williams Morr 240 J Dim with burial in Clarinda cemetery. She and husband Sir King marked 34th anniversary August 2 1953. She was member of African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Two boys earned top senior grades at Clarinda High School in 1954. One received 23 A’s and 9 B’s, was a citizen award nominee, student council officer, class president, representative student, member of honor society, Y- club, annual staffer, and active in plays, basketball, and track. He plans to attend Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls as salutatorian. The other earned 22 A’s and 10 B’s, member of honor society, cabinet, football all Southwest and all state, and track, aiming for the University of Town.
Clarinda 1954 summer band series announced for the city park. Arrangements include lawn seating and a large audience area near Foch Park, with plans for an open, casual event space adjacent to Blewett Street and nearby paths.
Yanzo Drennen longtime mayor of New Market and respected citizen died at Myniel Dal hospital in Clarinda Thursday evening after a severe heart attack on Wednesday. Survivors include his wife and four children Vanzo Jr Noel Carpenter Leia Mae Radke. Funeral services held Saturday at Walker Funeral Home at two o'clock conducted by Rev C W Severn.

All are to report at the bus depot in Clarinda for Omaha induction shortly after 1:50.

Clarinda thin clads finish fourth in the 1954 state meet in Des Moines. Merl Eberly set a class A state record with a football throw of 211 feet 41% inches, his second best of the year. Harry Carr won the high hurdles in 15.3 seconds, Tom Turner took second in the 440, and the mile relay team faced strong competition as Clarinda earned 34 points to tie for 16th. Nellie May Graft of College Springs died Wednesday. Survived by Nellie Christensen Roy Duncan Francis Coulter Paul Farquhar Orville Mendes and Harold Mitchell. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Funeral service led by John Bengard of New Market.
