Baccalaureates Open Finals for Clarinda Grads
Clarinda two graduating classes heard topnotch baccalaureates Sunday at First Presbyterian Church and First Methodist Church. The Clarinda Junior College choir performed in the morning and the Clarinda High School girls chorus in the evening. Nelson E Crow played organ and directed both services. Rev Davis led the morning service with ministers assisting in the evening.

Car and truck collision on Highway 2 injures one
On Friday night two miles east of Clarinda on Highway 2 a collision between a car and an unidentified truck caused minor injuries to Ruth Scalf and $250 damage to the 1956 Chevrolet. Mrs Goldie Moore suffered minor injuries. the truck fled the scene. Ruth Scalf and two New Market residents were en route to work at the Mental Health Institute.

City Park band kicks off 1957 summer series Thursday
Memorial Day marks the opening of the summer concert season with a City Park platform recital at 8 pm. Richard Mowery notes the band practices weekly since late winter and will perform about a dozen numbers, featuring Miss Janis Brayman with two solos and a trombone specialty. Community backs visit from Greece by senior student
The Clarinda High School Student Council plans to bring Miss Stella Metallinou from Greece for the next school year through the American Field Service. Three service clubs each pledged 100 dollars while three school groups committed 50 45 and 20 dollars. Fundraising aims for 650 dollars plus a little extra to cover costs and travel. The Arthurs will host Metallinou in their home during the year and schools will help her adapt to American life and schools.

William B Cundiff, president of the Page County Conservation Board, announced the board has conferred with Iowa State College Extension Service and local soil commissioners on a possible public recreational area. Loot in four Blanchard break-ins targets sparks and smokes
Four Blanchard break-ins reported by Page County Sheriff Stanley Edgar confined theft to spark plugs and cigarets. Entry was made by forcing front doors with a bar at Hutt's Cafe the nearby grocery store Brownfield's Garage and Morley's Service Station. Cafe and grocery store losses were nil. About 200 spark plugs were stolen from the garage and additional plugs and cigarets from the service station.

Clarinda Library Adopts Summer Hours After Holiday
The Clarinda Public Library announces summer hours starting the Friday after Memorial Day. Head librarian Vera Payton says the adult section will run 10 am to 6 pm weekdays and 10 am to 9 pm Saturdays, while the juvenile section will be 10 am to 12 pm weekdays and 2 pm to 6 pm Saturdays.
