Education theme marks 40th anniversary of VD association

The American Social Hygiene Association promotes strong family life and fights venereal diseases under the banner Educate Tomorrow's Parents Today. In Iowa the US Public Health Service reports 18,900 people need syphilis treatment and 68 of 1000 Lowans last year sought care. Public health funding shrinks. federal appropriations in Iowa dropped 73 percent to 15,500 last year with more cuts planned, challenging VD control as cases rise.

End of Steam Era in Creston Division

On April 14, 1954 in southwestern town a steam engine, No 6,600, was driven to the round house after pulling a freight. Burlington main line in Creston division ends steam usage, as No 5,600 the first of the 1600 class runs here and may be scrapped or sent to Rocky Mountain for disposal.
