P Caspar Harvey of William Jewell College Liberty Missouri will discuss Four Types of Women That Men Marry at the Clarinda chamber of commerce quarterly dinner at St John’s Lutheran church on Monday June 6 at 6 30 pm. The lecture marks his 117th unusual presentation and first in Iowa. Harvey has 40 years as professor and has coached eight national champions in forensics. He is English professor alumni secretary and director of public relations at William Jewell College.

The Clarinda Flying club and local firms will feed over 2000 at the Municipal airport sunrise breakfast. Fourteen stoves cook pancakes and eggs while prizes are handed to visiting pilots. A National Guard jet and Navy displays follow, with a busy Memorial Day schedule including parades services and concerts.

Smith Farm House Destroyed While Family Absent Near Clarinda
A two story farm home east of Clarinda known as the old Manley farm burned completely late Wednesday leaving a family of six homeless. No one was home as Mrs Smith was at the Clarinda hospital with a newborn son and the other children stayed with an aunt. Firemen from Clarinda fought the blaze but it was a total loss.

Windhorst family reunion bridges coast to coast
Nine Windhorst siblings aged 59 to 81 gathered at Immanuel Lutheran church basement on May 22 for their first reunion in 19 years. The group, five sisters and four brothers, traveled from California Missouri Florida and other places to reconnect following their mother’s 1936 death. The Windhorst parents were Fred and the late wife. Lloyd remains on the Summit Place farm three miles south of the church. Other Windhorst siblings are deceased or living in Clarinda St Louis and Twin Falls.

Parade Forming to Open Memorial Rites Monday
Memorial day services sponsored by the American Legion begin with a 9 30 a m parade forming on the south side of the square. Lt Quentin Annan leads the Heavy Mortar Company as officer of the day with a route around the square to 15th Street then north to the cemetery.
