Forty-three Clarinda Junior College sophomores and 75 high school seniors will graduate in a joint ceremony at Fairgrounds Park on Thursday May 31 at 8 pm. Dr J W Maucker of Iowa State Teachers College will deliver the address, introduced by Clinton Turner. If rain forces a change, the High School Auditorium will host the event.

First Oil Sprayed on City Streets in 1956 Program
The first squirt of oil in the citys 1956 summer street surfacing program occurred Monday at 1 pm per City Manager R H van Deusen. By Tuesday the contractor had applied a carload of asphalt. 84 Egg Cake Served At Elmo Church Event
A huge siege cake with other ingredients was served Sunday evening at Elmo Christian Church during the social hour of the anniversary celebration. Clarinda veterans gather at the library steps Sunday at 10 30 AM to attend the annual Memorial service at First Presbyterian Church. It is the Sunday before Memorial Day and all veterans are urged to attend. Decoration of graves will require three veterans organizations and auxiliaries. over 300 bouquets must be prepared. High School Athletes Honored At Banquet In Clarinda
Eighty six Clarinda High School athletes and coaches were honored at a banquet in the St John’s Lutheran Church basement. Lyle Quinn of the Iowa High School Athletic Association gave the principal address. The event was hosted by the Cardinal Boosters Kiwanis Lions Rotary Clubs with planning led by Lyle Fann and Jack Bridie. Al Pfander emceed. Wives and mothers attended in greater numbers than last year. The ham dinner was prepared by a church ladies committee led by Mrs Herman Blume after an invocation by Rev W H Discher. A skit titled The Persecuted Maiden or Curses Failed Again featured students including Anna Buss and Kathy Mealey. Coach Ken Jones spoke on baseball.

Man loses arm in digger accident near Red Oak
Felix Netcell aged 72 of Red Oak suffered a severe arm injury when a mechanical post hole digger caught his sleeve and twisted, causing three compound fractures. Amputation was required to save his life.
