Fire destroys barn on Herzberg farm near Yorktown
A barn on the Robert Herzberg farm northeast of Yorktown burned to the ground around 4 pm Saturday. The family was indoors and did not notice the blaze until late. Yorktown Fire Department helped save a nearby corncrib. seed in the barn was minimal. Cause unknown.

Allen Gorrell 94 longtime Clarinda resident and retired carpenter died Friday evening at Young Rest Home. He lived with sister Mary at 408 W Grant St and was honored by the Odd Fellows graveside service. Burial was in Clarinda Cemetery. He was a long time Methodist Church member.

Reckless Driving Charge Appealed in Page County Court
A reckless driving charge against 16 year old James Snodderly of Clarinda was appealed to Page County District Court after a collision at 15th and Washington on April 21. Snodderly pled innocent before Justice R J McCurdy, with his father Max Snodderly appealing the case. The other driver in the crash was Jack Weaver, 23, of Clarinda. Cadet William Borthwick of Clarinda was promoted to cadet private first class in the Army ROTC artillery unit at Town State College after three quarters in Army ROTC.
