Palmer Pushes 60 MPH Night Speed Limit at Luncheon
State Rep Ernest Palmer of Fort Madison proposed a dusk to dawn speed limit of 60 miles per hour to reduce highway accidents. At a businessmen luncheon at Linderman Hotel he urged the legis lature to pass a bill if elected governor. He cited Iowa safety data showing most fatal crashes occur after 4 pm and at night on straight roads. He noted two thirds of traffic deaths occur after dark and cited other states where night limits reduced crashes. He said Iowa lags behind in this safety measure amid a toll of 177 highway fatalities so far that year.

Burial set for Charles M Lee 92 at Elmo church

Rites Friday for Veteran Clarinda City Man
Charles Andy Miller 88 longtime Clarinda resident and city employee died Tuesday night at his son Ted’s home after recent care at Municipal hospital. Funeral Friday 2 pm at Walker Funeral Home with Rev J Lewis Hunter of Free Methodist Church presiding. Burial in Clarinda cemetery beside his wife. Miller served as Clarinda water commissioner for 46 years. He is survived by six children and was the last of nine siblings. Born in Tarkio City Page county. Earl and Cecil cannot attend service. Four of his children preceded him in death.

Pvt Charles E Amos of Topeka Kansas was turned over to US Army authorities from Omaha Monday evening to face court martial charges. He was arrested after the stolen car he drove collided near Clarinda Friday. His papers showed Ft Leonard Wood Missouri as his station but no leave papers were found.
