Clarinda claimed five relays and several event wins as Shenandoah and Clarinda dominated the IHSAA Class A District Meet. Ken Hughes led Clarinda with wins in the mile in 4 33.1 and 880 in 2 06.9 while Shenandoah took multiple top spots and qualified eight individuals and all five relays for Ames state. Dr C T Carson pastor and chairman of the Clarinda Junior College Citizens Planning Committee will speak at an alumni meeting to organize an association Tuesday at 8 pm in the college social room. Dean Paul Larsen says the program includes college musicians and refreshments.

Veterans Fight to Save Memorial Day in Clarinda
Veterans groups in Clarinda seek to preserve Memorial Day observances. McKinley School in northeast Clarinda held a Mayday program on a sunny Friday afternoon. The queen Sally Grimes of the fourth grade was crowned by Robert Pierce. Amity high school qualified for the state Class C meet at Ames on May 17 in six individual events and four relays at the THSAA District Track Meet in College Springs.
