Observance promotes care for land and water resources through local effort. The National Association of Soil Conservation Districts leads the drive with church and civic support. The steward is defined as guardian of soil, water, woodlands, and wildlife, shaping sustained harvests and responsible land use for community and nation.
John Hunter president of the Clarinda Flying Club announces committee heads for the June 18 flight breakfast at the Municipal Airport. Bob Caswell and Orville Shockey lead promotions. Hunter chairs Displays and Entertainment with Dr Jack Martin and others assisting. Traffic and parking overseen by Earl Silver with George Pierce and others. Preston Billings in charge of preparations. Jack Krise to head cooking with a team of assistant chefs. Transportation and guest registration managed by designated volunteers and doctors.
SHAMBAUGH May Mr and Mrs Paul Shaw and family arrived Sunday at Vern Duncan’s home after being stopped by the state road patrol because of two funnel clouds overhead and detours due to high water on the highway. The Shaw family left Monday for Springfield Missouri. Local visits included Harold Beery Shenandoah and Amen Beery Jr eastern Iowa to Mrs Noah Beery, Rex Phipps Clarinda to John Taylors, and others touring area residents including Vern Carmichael Clarinda and Oda Pierson.
St John’s Lutheran Ladies Guild held a game party for patients Thursday. Sunday services featured Rev Mahannah from Shenandoah with Henry L Hayes Randy, Mr and Mrs Calvin Watson, Lois Groves Iola Craig and Mrs Helen Upp of Shenandoah’s Christian Church.

Clarinda High School held its annual Junior Senior Banquet at the First Christian Church with a Neptune sea theme. Decorations featured moss, fish, anchors, and treasure chests while menus named Sea Goddess Bait and Neptune’s Brew.
Dr Merle L Hale son of John and Mrs Hale of Clarinda, travels from Iowa City to Dallas for a Baylor University lecture. A renowned educator and author, Hale's career includes chairing oral surgery at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and service in the Army Dental Corps. Additionally he contributes to several dental societies and journals. In a separate incident, Harold Toerber near Massillon suffered a severe facial cut after a power saw slipped while cutting a tree limb, needing 50 stitches.
