Page and Montgomery County Boards of Education rejected the Stanton reorganization plan 5-4 after a six hour hearing at the Montgomery County Courthouse. An appeal was filed March 24 by Coburg Consolidated and Essex Independent districts. Des Moines set April 7 for the hearing.

Spring Coed Conference Draws 607 Southwest Iowa Students
Six hundred seven high school students from 16 southwest Iowa communities attended the annual Spring Coed Conference sponsored by the Southwest Iowa District YMCA and the Iowa District YWCA. New officers were elected for the Hi-Y Council with Charles Sohn of Harlan as president and Roger Selley of Villisca as first vice president. Connie Sandage of Mount Ayr became secretary and Leland Rauch of Mount Ayr new treasurer. The conference featured awards for outstanding clubs, with Mount Ayr Tri-Hi-Y winning the Outstanding Club Award and Atlantic receiving the basketball championship trophy for 1958 Hi-Y. Sanford Reece of New York City spoke at the opening convocation.

Fred Weber Jr of Potwin Kansas won the 13th annual Clarinda Spring Rabbit Show trophy for best display for the second straight year. Among 366 entries from five states, Weber earned 472 points for the AC Osborne traveling trophy. Earl Daubert of Omaha was runner-up with 274 points. Demonstrations and awards were presented by Chamber of Commerce leaders as the two day event closed.

Twenty four rural beginners continue Saturday morning lessons with Richard Mowery in the Clarinda East Page County program.
