Disappearance of Corning man prompts search at Clarinda institute
Bernard Ike Hatton a 27 year old voluntary patient walked away from the Clarinda Mental Health Institute during dinner Sunday. He is described as 5 10 and 145 pounds with dark complexion brown hair blue eyes horn rim glasses and a hearing aid. Hatton was last seen in a brown shirt and gray trousers. Local and county authorities aided by air and ground units searched the area but the planed to California. The search was called off Tuesday as officials believe he headed back toward California.

Farming Operation At MHI Showcases Big Institute Farm
J F MecPherron manager of the Mental Health Institute farms spoke to Kiwanians at the Linderman Hotel about the extensive operation. He outlined 900 acres of tillable land, 7 regular employees, and patient involvement in a diverse output including 12 500 bushels of corn 8 500 bushels of oats 560 tons of baled hay 80 325 pounds of beets 13 275 pounds of sweet potatoes and 270 head of Holstein cattle with 600 to 900 hogs raised yearly. The dairy herd is milked by a crew of about 90 daily in a barn rated for 100. A chorus of Centerville youths entertained after dinner.

Mrs Ted Hale and her daughters Patty 15 Beverly 13 were injured in a Monday collision at 13th and Main. They were treated at Municipal Hospital. Patty suffered a broken nose and Beverly a lost tooth. The other driver Gus A Helms 73 was fined 10 dollars plus costs for failing to yield.
