Miss Janice Harris, 16, daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas L Harris of Siam, was crowned Queen of the Green at the second annual Clarinda Spring Opening Style Show held at the Clarinda Theatre. The event featured 11 contestants, multiple princesses, prize money around 500 dollars, and fashion displays by local models with sponsorship by the Clarinda Chamber of Commerce and various local clubs.

Page County Board of Supervisors will open sealed bids March 29 and April 10 for rock and oil surfacing on 78.71 miles of county roads. Bids include Project 256 with 23.97 tons or 8,739 tons of special crushed stone and 9,074 cubic yards of gravel. Oiling covers 20.25 base rock miles, 9.06 gravel petition roads, and 5.65 surfaced local roads. April 10 action seeks 294000 gallons of oil and 5500 cubic yards of top rock for 43.75 miles. Remaining farm to market roads totalling 14.29 miles will be let by the Iowa Highway Commission in Ames in April or May.
