Jack Bridie of the Clarinda Industrial Development Program reports the labor survey in the Clarinda area about 75 percent complete with 1,011 questionnaires turned in and roughly 250 still outstanding. He notes many respondents would take full-time work if a new plant were built and urges volunteers to help tabulate data and complete contact lists for swift brochure preparation.

A grass fire sparked by corn shucks from a tractor near the Walter Geer farm in Hawleyville was halted. Fire crews from New Market and Shambaugh answered the call on Wednesday as the blaze approached the Geer property.

Reed, 22, of Clarinda was inducted at the Omaha induction center on Wednesday. He is the son of Mrs Blanche Lafever and has worked four years at Community Feed Milling and Grain Co. He previously worked for the city and the Iowa Power and Light Co.
Merle Mc Cutcheon, an employee of a local telephone cooperative, told Red Cross volunteers in east Page County that he valued the aid received during military service. He said the Red Cross helped with pay advances and rehabilitation and emphasized that everything was free while he served abroad and at home.
Judge Harold E Davidson dismissed one civil petition Irene Hulse versus Raymond H Hulse and two criminal charges for insufficient evidence. Richard J Jones had a bad check charge for a $54.82 check at Runyan Standard in June 1955. Joseph L Smith face non support of children charge dropped. Smith formerly of Clarindan, now in Council Bluffs.

Every watcher will receive at least one call to the filter center each hour during this test.
In Clarinda, Dr P A Peterson and Mrs Fred Sperry were re-elected to the Board of Education. Peterson led with 243 votes and Sperry with 209, edging out rival Mrs Howard Sunderman by 11 votes. total balloting reached 417, up from 319 last year.

Top bull sold for 3 025 to Ideal Farms, Cla rinda. Overall sale average 315 with 44 bulls at 16 300 and 30 females at 7 050. Second top bull 735 to Alfred Christensen, Clarinda. Third top bull 725 to Arlavona Farm. Top female 440 to L R Vogt Bedford.
