Stanton plans eight-section shift to form new district

Esther Hensleigh reports a Stanton Community School District proposal affecting Page County. Public hearing set for March 27 in Red Oak at 1 30 pm. The plan includes eight sections in Douglas Township with 377 students projected for 1958-59 and a 28 mill tax levy funding a $111 224 budget.

Objections Filed to Essex Coburg School Merger Plan

Two school districts affected by the Essex Coburg merger filed written objections to the proposed district change. Clarinda Independent and Vienna Independent object to student transfers and loss of surfaced road use crucial for bus routes, citing transportation and access concerns. An Interstate Commerce Commission examiner recommended abandonment of 17 5 miles of track on the Clarinda to Northboro line. Burlington Railroad petitioned last year, objections were heard at a county courthouse hearing, and ICC must vote before service can stop.
