Leap year birthday wave hits Clarinda area

Leap day births and celebrations marked February 29 in Clarinda and surrounding areas. Judith Ann Huddle received a four candle cake at Clarinda High School from home economics girls and Miss Josephine Sherman. Drake Grid Coach to Speak at County Teachers Dinner

Rites Friday for Harry L Johnson

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon for Harry S Johnson 78 who died at the Clarinda Rest Home. A lifelong resident and longtime blacksmith he is survived by wife Martha and six children Lily Lucille Clarence LaVon Orvie and Klad. Red Cross drives launch in East Page County March effort

About 200 volunteers opened the March drive for a $7,161 goal for the East Page County American Red Cross. Coffee meetings at Linderman Hotel, chaired by Hunt and Gregory, drew more than 100 drive leaders and solicitors. Local and rural chairmen outlined home services and campaign literature was distributed.

Isadora Lindsey Dies Following Stay in Colorado

Isadora May Lindsey 88 died at her son Forests home in Greeley Colorado on Wednesday. The body goes to Walker Funeral Home for services at New Market Church of Christ Monday at 10 am. She had lived in New Market most of her life and is survived by son Forest Lindsey and daughter Fern Ray of Clarinda. Burial will be in Old Memory Cemetery.

College Choir Plans Home Concert and Eight Stop Tour

Clarinda College Choir directed by Nelson Crow announces a home concert at 7 30 pm in the school auditorium on Tuesday with three performance groups and solo numbers plus free shows at Bedford Mount Ayr Macksburg Greenfield St Charles Prairie City and Ferguson. CJC Men Escape Serious Injury in Auto Accident

Five Clarinda Junior College students escaped serious harm when their Nash sedan overturned on Highway 90 near Booneville after a car ahead braked suddenly. Pagemeres Angus Bull Sale Tuesday in North Platte

Pagemere Angus Farms of Clarinda will hold its sixth annual Aberdeen Angus Bull Sale at North Platte Nebraska on Tuesday. The sale starts at 1 pm in the Pure bred Livestock Pavilion on the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. Twenty seven bulls, all descendants of Marycrest Eileenmere 3d and Pageileenmere 16th, will be offered with auctioneer Charlie Corkle and fieldman Arden Aegerter. Clarinda hosts a Shamrock Days queen contest led by Yvonne Johnson among 11 candidates with prizes around 500 dollars. Votes cost about one cent each based on merchandise purchases through March 10. Ground Observer Corps Reorganization Meeting Planned

Bowling Alley Under Construction in Clarin Da’s

Work began Monday on Clarin da’s 10 lane bowling alley with eight alleys arriving from St Louis. A six man crew laid subflooring in the former Snodderly Motors building on E Stuart St under Newt Anderson who sold to Bob Isom. Interior remodeling proceeds, a showroom partition removed, aiming for ABC sanction after a strict transit guided subflooring and precise leveling.

Funeral services were held in Bedford for Martin H Borrusch 83 who died Friday at Young Rest Home Clarinda He was born September 29 1872 in Mendota Illinois and grew up in Iowa He was a carpenter and contractor who helped build notable Nodaway County structures He married Addie M Coleman February 29 1900 Survivors include son Paul Bedford two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews Preceded in death by wife and a son Virgil

Kiwanians Enjoy Meeting at Cardinal Canteen

The Clarinda Kiwanis club gathered Tuesday at the Cardinal Canteen for dinner served by Mrs Merle Stevens and staff. Merle Stevens chaired the program as Glenn Hipsley outlined canteen affairs and praised its success. The group noted plans to expand facilities with a talent show on April 26 27 to fund a new room and pool table.
