Clarin da announces an open house for the new 360000 dollar Sewage disposal plant on Sunday June 26 from 2 to 9 pm. Mayor R L Criswell says residents should inspect the modern facility with guided tours and staff on hand to answer questions about operation. The plant lies east of the Municipal airport near the Nodaway river with access from near the southeast corner of the main hangar.

Chuck Graham leaves Clarinda to rejoin General Electric as district advertising manager after accepting an offer from GE offices. He will relocate once his business and residence are settled, first working in Schenectady New York, then an assignment elsewhere. Escape Involved In Tuesday Accident Near Shambaugh
Mr and Mrs Walter Swanson of Plainview Minnesota escaped with minor injuries when their 1955 Chevrolet crossed Highway 71 a mile and a half south of Shambaugh and flipped against a tree Tuesday afternoon. Sheriff Stanley Edgar said they were en route home from Oklahoma and were not hospitalized after being examined.

State to drop 5 percent of Amity township road from 333 to US71
County engineers report the state highway commission will stop maintenance on 5 percent miles of surfaced primary road linking State Highway 3323 and US 71 in Amity township effective July 1 1955. They warn county burden will rise as repairs and ongoing upkeep cost are estimated at six to seven thousand dollars for first time plus more than 2500 annually thereafter.

Page ASC election boards are busy this season
Preparations for the annual ASC elections are underway at the township level in Page county. Community election boards, chaired by John Hunter and Oscar Engstrom, must nominate at least 10 candidates for ASC committee membership. Each township board will finalize its slate by June 20, with ballots printed by July 8 and mailed. Farmers vote July 9 to July 15.

Grass seed crop fair quality in Clarinda yards
Grass seed crop is at its height in the Clarinda area this week with short stands but satisfactory yields. Loads are moving over city scales from dawn to after dark, mostly small pickups. Three yards operate here: Stipe yard south of Clarinda, Grieve yard west of town, and Mangeldorff yard east of the tracks, with Mangeldorff sending most seed to Maryville.

Louis E Chicilla of Shenandoah was fined 480 and costs after pleading guilty to going armed with intent. County Attorney Max C Turner said Chicilla involved in a tavern altercation on May 28 and vowed to return with a gun to "get" the man. The judge also granted a divorce decree to Ruth Bilderback against Ivan Bilderback.

Funeral at Stanton for Young Farmer Killed in Hay Machine
A Stanton farmer, 24 year old Max Donald Bergren, was found dead Friday after his glove became caught in a hay baling machine. He worked alone on a farm six miles north of Stanton and was laid to rest Tuesday at Mamrelund Lutheran church. He was son of Clarence V Bergren and had brothers Marion of Stanton and Allan of Iowa City.

The postal service introduced a certified mailing option for first class mail, usable without intrinsic value, in Clarinda and nationwide.
