Clarinda approves 1958 city budget at special meeting
The Clarinda City Council adopted the 1958 budget at a special meeting in City Hall. A public hearing is set for Aug 7 at 7 30 PM in the council chamber. The council continues funding for the Page County Courthouse ladies restroom with a $500 annual contribution, conditional on a woman attendant from 9 to 5, six days weekly. The county seeks $960 annually for maintenance. The restroom had been closed on Saturday afternoons by county action. An amendment to the Position Classification is also adopted.

Stepfather of Shambaugh Lady Dies in Phillipsburg
Mrs Denna McClarnon was called to Phillipsburg Kansas when her stepfather A J Ferguson died suddenly at his home on Wednesday evening. Ferguson was 83 and had not been active recently. He died of a heart attack. Mrs Ferguson had visited her daughter at Shambaugh about a week earlier.

Funeral for Harry Borland 84 Held After July 15 Accident
Funeral services were held Wednesday for Harry Borland 84 who died from injuries in an accident on July 15. A lifelong farmer west of Clarinda he previously served as Page County sheriff in the early 1920s and ran a freight dray in Clarinda. The Kodak color photo shows him with his Collie and ears of corn.
