She is a University of Nebraska student and Riverton High School valedictorian who plans nursing studies in Omaha and enjoys riding, owning three horses and former 4-H and Saddle Club member.

Taylor County Farm Couple Tops Iowa Production Flock Records
Mr and Mrs Merle Harland of Dallas Township Taylor County Iowa posted the top producing demonstration flock in 1955 with a net profit of 2.47 per bird and the highest income per third. Their 158 bird flock averaged 267 eggs per hen with 17.5 percent mortality, yielding gross income of 5.72 per bird while feed costs were 3.16 per bird. The Harlands followed Extension Service practices including pullets housed by five months, year round confinement, three daily egg collections, deep litter and roast pits, among others. An October meeting at the Harland farm will further explain these methods. The Taylor County Extension Service, based at 408 Main Street Bedford, offers poultry help to all farmers.
