Seven jackpot drawings have been held with two more planned. Three major prizes have already been awarded including a living room suite and carpeting. The jackpot automobile drawing is scheduled for Friday July 26 at 4 pm, with 25 more names added that day at 4 pm during Dollar Days opening. Thousands have attended recent drawings. The Lions Club will serve free watermelon and iced drinks at Green Bay Lumber near the square as crowds gather for the 3 pm event before the 4 pm car drawing.
A two motor imported Royal Gull from Italy landed at Cres ton July 10 so J M Hoskinson of Rockford Illinois an employee of Roper Corp could retrieve his three youngsters who had visited Cromwell. The pilot hesitated but landed on Herring Airport takeoff used nearly the full runway.
Shambaugh girls Nancy Annan Geraldine Blessing Kay Hazleton Suzanna Barnes and Linda Kinzley leave for Camp Shambaugh near Indianola. The Shambaugh MYF plans a homemade ice cream social in the church basement Friday August 2 at 6 30 pm. Fifteen Church of God Ladies Aid members met Monday. Mrs Charley Geer hosted.
Clarinda to open new 10 pavement in business district no later than July 29 with traffic possible as early as July 22. City manager RH van Deusen says contractor prefers closed streets until cleanup finishes. project started April 22, 140000 dollar repaving under E C Van Vleet supervision, with center lines to be painted by state.
The Johnson cousins marked their 28th annual reunion Sunday at Clarinda park with 56 attendees. A basket dinner and ice cream followed, with local families including Leslie Johnson, Norman Johnson, Wesley Johnson and five sons, plus several relatives. Next year’s gathering set for Lake of Three Fires in Bedford on the second Sunday in July.
