Father of Mrs Lester Donelson dies suddenly in New Virginia
Lyons 88 father of Mrs Lester Donelson of here died at the home of Mrs Lee Keller in New Virginia. He had been ill for some time and was visited by the Clarinda family at Truro. He did not awaken from an afternoon sleep on July 7. The Kale Funeral Home in Truro handled the service Saturday. The Lester Donelsons and Kenneth Donelsons traveled from here to meet Ronald Donelsons from Lone Tree.

MYF Institute Campers Named From Two Towns
Methodist Youth Federation groups from Clarinda and Shambaugh will send nine campers to the annual senior MYF institute in Indianola July 24 to 30. Sue Roberts of Clarinda and Darwin Damewood of Shambaugh will serve as counsellors. Shambaugh collected 87 dollars from work days. Clarinda plans an early August drive and a homemade ice cream social next Wednesday on the church lawn to raise funds. Funeral for Coin Resident Dick Carroll Tuesday
Funeral service was held Tuesday at Harding Funeral Home Shenandoah for TA Dick Carroll 68 of Coin who died Sunday at a Clarinda nursing home. Rev Ross Keyt officiated. he moved to Coin in 1917 from Pennsylvania and was a prominent farmer south of Bingham. He is survived by brothers Arthur and Lee and sister Miss Lillian Carroll all of Cain plus nieces and nephews.

Capt Quentin Annan Promoted and Des Moines Commissioned
Captain Quentin Annan of Clarinda received a promotion on June 24 and was commissioned captain in the Iowa National Guard in Des Moines. He was first commissioned January 1, 1951, became first lieutenant in June 1953, and has led the local unit since late 1953. A grasshopper control school was conducted at the Municipal airport on Wednesday by the state college extension service. More than 75 farm operators heard Iowa State College entomologist Bob Walstrom discuss hopper problems and the use of spray equipment and control chemicals.
