Legionnaires Build Huge Concrete Plant for Highway Widening
A large concrete plant operates near the Municipal Airport as Lem Legionnaires start work on widening a highway west of Clarinda. Draglines scoop sand from railroad cars while a receiving and laying machine forms a three foot wide concrete strip along the existing pavement five miles west of Clarinda. The west half of the Clarinda Shenandoah stretch was completed from Shenandoah. Booth and Olson Construction Co of Sioux City moved to Clarinda to finish the east half and had about a quarter done Tuesday afternoon.

Practical Nursing Committees Meet for Organization
The Clarinda Junior College School of Practical Nursing held its second annual executive and advisory meeting in the college social room. Officers were re elected with Mrs Charles Flynn as chairwoman and Mrs Ann White and Ted Poteet in key posts. Graduation for the first class is set for August 17 at 1 p m, with Dr Norman D Render invited to give the address. A new Admissions Committee was formed and new advisory members joined. The school continues recruiting students after enrolling 18 last year. 14 wore caps at a January 13 ceremony, with a special insignia for graduates.

Time Bomb thwarted near College Springs Fourth celebration

Page County farmers can obtain more dieldrin grasshopper spray from the county maintenance garage as two additional barrels bring total to four. By noon 24 farmers had collected spray with ten gallons handed out on Tuesday. Farmers are asked to bring their own containers and can take small amounts as needed. The state allocated 45 000 dollars to pest control, supplementing 87 000 previously approved. The situation is described as serious by entomologist H M Harris. Bedford.
