Major George W Landers known as the dean of American bandmasters and father of Iowa band law died Tuesday at Des Moines Veterans Hospital. Graveside services were held Thursday at Clarinda Cemetery with Veterans of Foreign Wars post present. Surviving children include Lucile Blane, Mary Perry, and Ruth Catrie. grandchildren Thomas Duffield and James Blane. Landers built a long musical career in Clarinda after rising from a New York factory job to lead bands and conduct nationally.

Mrs Mary Stewart 77 wife of the late Rev Neil Stewart United Presbyterian minister died in Clarinda after about three years illness. Body to Murray Nebraska for funeral services at United Presbyterian church. She will be returned to Clarinda to lie in state then taken to Redwood Falls Minnesota to be laid beside her husband. Survived by daughter Lorena McKie Red Oak and son Archibald Stewart.

Mrs Martha Lawson, 84, died at Municipal hospital at 9 pm July 4 after a four week illness. Funeral was held Thursday at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Waunelta McConnell officiating. Burial followed in Clarinda cemetery. Surviving are four children, nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and other relatives. Her husband John B Lawson died in 1988 and a son Ward in 1949. The family settled near old Page City after arriving from Henry County Illinois in 1876.
