Mother of Local Woman Moody Dies at 86 in Bedford
Mrs J E Moody 86 of Bedford died unexpectedly Tuesday at 5 pm while resting at home. She was under doctor care two weeks earlier. She was mother of Mrs H R Carney of Clarinda and wife of Mr Moody who marked their 62nd wedding anniversary last October. A son Rex Moody lives in Newton Kansas. Funeral Friday at 10 am at Shum Funeral Home Bedford with burial in Bedford Cemetery.

Driver Uninjured After Semi Hits Bridge Rail
Lyle Steeve driver for Eldon Johnson escaped with a bruised knee when his semi trailer struck a bridge rail four miles south of Clarinda near midnight Tuesday. Sheriff and patrolmen found the truck upright, blocking the highway. Steeve stood by dazed, unable to explain the incident beyond saying he dozed and barely steered back onto the pavement. The rig sustained heavy damage.

Clergy Delegates Return From Grinnell Conclave
Rev D C Davis and Bill Hemphill Sr returned home Monday from Grinnell where they represented the Clarinda First Presbyterian Church at the conclave. They escaped a contagious flu that prompted early closing of seven day sessions by medical groups. Bill Hemphill's roommate from the East fell ill. The disease proved highly contagious but short in duration.
