Storm snaps 90 year old Pfander tree in yard
Saturday night high winds tore a 3 foot through tree from the Pfander property, missing house and a red bud in the front yard. The 90 year old tree is set to be cut and ring counting may begin. Municipal Band To Honor Major George Landers Thursday

Former College Springs Man Named Sioux City Store Manager
Paul Whipp a College Springs High School graduate has been named general manager of a new B F Goodrich supply store in Sioux City. Whipp began with Goodrich as a salesman in 1953 in Des Moines and later became territorial manager in 195. He is the son of Mrs Lora Whipp of College Springs and is married to the former Va Walker of Clarinda. The couple has three children.

Glora Caskey and Marcia Perry of Clarinda are named to Geneva College Beavers Falls Pa for the second semester of 1960 61. The Honors List includes 110 day students from 864 total. Caskey a junior and four semester honoree majors in elementary education and a College Springs High School graduate. Perry a 1961 valedictorian with a BA in English graduated from Clarinda High and earned all A’s while on the Honors List all four years.

Lee Roy Anderson born March 11 1884 and long time Page County resident dies Saturday at Clarinda Municipal Hospital after three days of illness. He lived near Derby Iowa for a decade farming prior to illness and is survived by two sons, two daughters, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren along with three brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held at Williams-Foster Mortuary with burial in Clarinda Cemetery.

Guy Edward Drennen 60 native of Taylor County died after a brief illness early Sunday at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. He lived at 115 35th Ave Omaha Neb his wife Opal Holbrook survives with three children Dewy Hinzley and Phyllis Cox. He leaves brothers Harve and Claude and sisters Buelah Hogg Mildred Kellogg. Funeral Wednesday July 5 at 2 pm Walker Funeral Home Clarinda.

Graveside services held for Ralph Waterman in Clarinda
Hundreds from out of town attended the rites for Ralph W Waterman former Clarinda resident who died June 29 1961 at Webster Grove Missouri from a heart attack. Graveside services were at 10 am Monday at Clarinda Cemetery with Rev D C Davis of Westminister United Presbyterian Church officiating. The funeral was conducted in Webster Grove Saturday afternoon.

Fourth of July activities planned around Clarinda area
A busy Fourth features picnics in Clarinda’s park, a 25 mile trip to Viking Lake for boating and fishing, and swimming as temperatures rise. The Legion Pool hosts regular hours from 1 30 to 9 pm with morning lessons. St Joseph meets Clarinda Athletics at 8 pm. A 9 hole golf tourney starts at 1 30 at the Country Club. The Little Britches Buckaroo Days begins at 10 30 am in Coin with a Community Club parade and later rodeos. Fireworks sponsored by Coin fire dept and Izaak Walton League host a light display. New Market Baptist Church serves its noon Fourth dinner.
