Reo Depew of Albuquerque New Mexico scientist at Sandia Corp atomic energy plant will speak at a joint Clarinda Lions and Kiwanis meeting at the Linderman Hotel Tuesday at 6 15 pm. His topic The Atomic Energy Program at Sandia will cover Sandia organization department functions and how tax money funds atomic research with slides. He will discuss atomic weapons development and medical use of the cobalt bomb with a question session after. Depew notes Sandia is inside the armed forces special weapons base near Albuquerque and derives its name from a nearby mountain range meaning watermelon in Spanish. He is division supervisor in electronic development at Sandia and has radar development experience.

Landers Family Exposed to Sulphur Dioxide Gas
A south Grant Street home was filled with coughing fumes from an old refrigerator shortly after 5 am. Harold Scott and two Scott children, plus George W Landers who lives there, received oxygen and were taken to neighbors while firefighters removed the leaking appliances. Only temporary discomfort occurred. The repairman had checked the fridge the day before. Firemen also moved a newer box and used fans to vent the gas.

Girls 4 H Building Under Construction at Page County Fair
Dirt has been hauled for a solid foundation as work on the Page county girls 4 H building near the boys building begins next week. Fourth Traffic Death for County in 1954 Near Braddyville
Betty Blades Ferguson, 49, of Kansas City, Mo., died in a two mile north of Braddyville crash on Highway 71 around 6 40 pm Wednesday. Sheriff Hipsley said her broken neck caused the fatality, with a broken leg and crushed chest as additional injuries.

Noisy Fans Trigger $10,000 District Court Petition
Garra Duncan of Shenandoah filed a district court petition against Howard Brannen claiming two loud fans near Brannen's store on North Blossom Avenue cause continuous noise harming his wife’s health and endangering tenants. He seeks a temporary injunction, $10,000 damages, and permanent relief. Judge Vernon Johnson set the hearing for Wednesday July 7 at 10 am in the courthouse.

Hearings On Northboro Station Custodian Plan
State commerce commission heard proposed changes at Clarinda to replace the Northboro railway agent with a custodian. The custodian would man the station part time, keep a winter fire, and be paid about $50 monthly. Anthony resigns as executive secretary of Clarinda Chamber
C W Anthony aged 40 submitted his resignation from the position of executive secretary of the Clarinda chamber of commerce to President George Hall on Wednesday. He has held the post since August 15 1952 succeeding L Dean Paarmann who went to FBI work. He moved to Clarinda five years ago from Council Bluffs and previously managed Farmers Implement Co until its sale to Miller Tomlinson.
