Services Held for Victim of Accident
Funeral services for Clark F Thompson 27 were held at Walker Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon. He died at Municipal Hospital from a bullet wound suffered in an accident at his home Saturday night. Rev Lloyd Latta led the service with Edna McKown and Zola Belle Thompson singing and Aretha Hutchings on the organ. Interment was in Clarinda Cemetery. The Monday Herald Journal corrected that Highway Patrolman Virgil Elmore made two blood trips, not one, arriving with the second four pints before the death.

Twenty six couples braved icy roads for a City Hall basement square dance as severe weather limited turnout and nearly kept caller George Osborne from Alta Loma away. Fire destroys Schmidt Apartments near Clarinda
Early Tuesday a fire leveled the Schmidt Apartments formerly housing Schmitty's Cafe, located one mile northeast of Clarinda on Highway 71. Earl Schenck of Clarinda, en route from Creston, spotted the blaze around 1:30 am as smoke crossed the highway. Fire units from New Market and Shambaugh assisted but could not save the building, insured for 50 000 dollars.
