City Council approved partial street closure on W Main St from 4 to 10 pm weekdays and 1 to 5 pm weekends after a survey of 23 of 34 residents showed support for coasting. Snow will be reduced but a lower layer kept for sliding. hill access remains limited.
Clarinda Amvets hosts the 9th District meeting Sunday at 2 pm led by district commander Paul Sein of Atlantic and district vice commander Bob Grimm. Harland McMannama Post No 103 hosts the event with posts from Clarinda Atlantic and Shenandoah. All World War II and Korean War veterans are invited.

He urges locals to demand the Blue Card showing compliance before any transaction. The card is issued only after city rules are met and the firm is deemed reliable. Failure to advertise is viewed as closing a door to business.
Clarinda High School announces Marcia Perry as a National Merit Scholarship finalist after ranking among 7,500 top scorers from 162,000 seniors. The program's 1957 timeline includes a Jan 12 exam, leadership review, and a potential 700 scholars to be named by April 25 with substantial four year awards.

A crowd of soil conservationists gathered for the Page County Soil Conservation District dinner in Clarinda. Chairman Joseph O Hara and Emmett Zollers spoke as mutual benefits were exchanged among Soil Service the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and Page County engineers. By afternoon, agreements promised benefits to over a thousand Page County farms through cooperative effort and avoided duplication of conservation structures.
Lloyd Hulbert aged 60 died after a sudden stroke at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute and Municipal Hospital. Heworked 55 years for Tyler Brothers and Coca Cola bottling, and had been at the state hospital less than a year. He is survived by his wife Bessie, two sons Carroll and Donald, his mother Mrs John Hulbert, a sister Gladys Maley and brothers Charles Glenn and Foster, all of Clarinda. Funeral set for Saturday at Walker Funeral Home with burial in Clarinda Cemetery.

Esther Kenagy and Mildred Gust were elected Homecoming Queen candidates at a Clarinda College basketball game Monday night. A queen will be chosen from candidates elected at home games and crowned at the Homecoming game.
