Cardinal Capers plans are under way as the band department readies the annual Cardinal Capers production. Semester exams begin next week with the term ending January 13, prompting students to study late.
Montgomery County notes two deaths and various social visits. Mrs Don Greenland formerly Violet Roche Fort dies Christmas Day at Centra lia Washington, aged 100. Frank Lynch, oldest Montgomery County resident and past editor, dies at county home on Christmas Day.
George Bennett, former College Springs resident, died in Newton Iowa and will be buried there Tuesday. He lived with his parents in the house later occupied by Harold Brysons during his schooling. He moved to Newton and worked in a bank.

The WSCS served a chicken supper to 40 county extension officers and wives at the church. Friday events include guests from Stanton, a family night with photo slides from Turkey, and plans for travel to New Mexico to visit relatives. Local families from Clarinda, Red Oak, and other areas spent Christmas with the Maxwell family. Mrs Gladys Cook arrived from Washington and stayed through Tuesday.
The Iowa Heart Association asks Iowans to adopt a 1961 resolution to keep weight at a normal level for heart health. It cites actuarial data linking overweight to higher mortality and offers five rules on diet, medical supervision, and lasting weight control.
Iowa boundary panel votes four to two to make the Missouri River centerline the Iowa Nebraska boundary. Carter Lake with 2500 residents would switch to Nebraska, provoking strong Western Iowa protests and a legislative fight into 1961.
Merle Gamble was re elected president of the Pleasant Ridge Telephone Company at the January 3 annual meeting. Other officers include A A Anderson as vice president. Fred E Reed as secretary treasurer. Forrest Eitzen, Lorenz Meier, Duane Johnson, and Carl Smith as directors. Gamble will serve on the switchboard committee and other social notices follow.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Davison visited Mr and Mrs Bill McDonald over the weekend and stayed with the Leslie Yearons in New Market. Alan Waldruff returned to Ames to resume school. The Rex Mulkins and Falk families joined Roscoe Mulkins and others in Shenandoah and Anita visits.
New Year guests at Ira Chesnut included Max Edwards Paula Kaye and Cecil Nichols home visits followed. Floy Waldroff hosted Pearl Waldroff Ralph Dowden Marvin and others from St Joe. Jean Thompson Lucius Harsh Floyd Harsh visits noted. Wallace family from Hopkins visited grandparents Albert and Shirley Wallace. Families Whipple Whipple relatives hosted by Jay Hamiltons.
Rose Hill Church Ladies Aid welcomed husbands as guests at their January gathering in Herburn. The group revealed last year's mystery pals and drew new ones for the coming year. LOCAL residents shared New Year visits with relatives in Clarinda, College Springs, Cedar Rapids, Omaha, and nearby towns.
The Hardee school in Buchanan Township, once a 60 year old site, has been moved to the Roy Fine farm near Siam and repurposed as a shed. The school began in an 1850 hut, with Ezra Hardee and family generations attending across four sites on the Hardee homestead.
Walter Bartels of Clarinda was elected chairman of the Page County Board of Supervisors at the organizational meeting. Renard Palmquist, Douglas Township, sworn in as new supervisor, succeeding Edward Rhoades Jr. and E G Anderson of Essex serves with them. L N Hoppock and Orville Brewer named county engineer and assistant.

He cites snow removal efficiency, asks for curb parking limits, and recommends reinforced tire chains to handle glare ice and packed snow, boosting safety and city records.
College students return from Christmas vacation to Ames Maryville and Clarinda towns with students named including Bill Cas key Gary Ludington Even Ann Keesey and Farah Lea Geer. Local youths attend church youth conference and families welcome new baby Larissa Jane born Dec 31 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital.
