Driest year on record for Clarinda in 1955
Wayne Fuller, superintendent of the city waterworks, notes 1955 had 21.82 inches of precipitation, the driest since 1900 and 9.88 inches below normal. The prior record was 1934 at 23.82 inches. June saw the most rain, while November and December were exceptionally dry. Temperature peaked at 104°F on July 31 and January 27 recorded a low of 17°F below zero. Wells ran dry, but Nodaway River flow remained above its lowest level, with Creston supplying nearby towns. Car washing and other water uses were curtailed.

County Boys 4-H Meeting Set for January 28
County 4-H officers plan their annual meeting for Saturday night January 28 at Coin City Hall. A chili supper will start at 6 30 p.m. President Marvin Negley says the program will include election of officers awards and officers reports. Twenty eight medals will be awarded to outstanding 4-H members of 1955. Current officers are Marvin Negley president Joe Bengtson vice president Ronald Murphy secretary Richard Fine treasurer Ronald Foster historian.

Art Osborne Died in Nebraska Home
Arthur C Osborne died at his daughter’s home in Creighton Nebraska after a long illness. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 pm at the First Christian Church in Clarinda with Rev Paul Ginn and Rev Ralph Allen officiating. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth two daughters Mrs Valda Ginn of Creighton Nebraska and Mrs Jean Rouse of St Joseph Missouri.

Judge Harold E Davidson ordered the arrest of Wayne J Brady of Des Moines to appear in District Court to show cause why his Dec 3 parole should stand Brady 20 was sentenced to six months in jail and paroled to Polk County Chief Probation Officer Carl B Parks for six months after being charged with breaking into a Braddyville tavern July 5 1955. Parks reported Brady and four others procured beer on Dec 23 1955 and rode on a country highway with other citizens The bench warrant had been issued for Brady's arrest but no notification of his arrest was received in Des Moines by Thursday morning.
