Funeral for Charlie Mier, 70, of near Yorktown, will be held Tuesday at the United Presbyterian Church in Clarinda with Dr C E Hawthorne in charge. A family service starts at 1 30 at his home, burial at Mr Mier place. He farmed near Yorktown 54 years, born Immanuel vicinity, widow, four sons Paul Martin Charles William, a sister Mrs Carrie Sump. Weather notes indicate a misty morning with temperatures around 48 degrees at 9 15 this Monday. A light snow residue of about half an inch remains from recent conditions and the day began with fine mist before 7 am.
New Year crashes injure none in frost slick highways
Two local men escaped injury in separate New Year morning crashes on frost slick roads. Darwin Buck, driving north on Highway 71 toward the Y east of town, caused about 75 dollars damage to a Buick Riviera. Ed Fuerst, driving west on Highway 2 seven miles west of Bedford, lost control at a double curve, turning the Chrysler onto its side with about 250 dollars damage. no injuries were reported.
