Kansas Man Fined 300 for Drunk Driving
H D Cowan of Atchison Kansas was fined 300 dollars and costs after pleading guilty in Page County District Court to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was arrested by Sheriff Stanley Edgar and City officer Martin Walter after motorists reported erratic driving on Highway 71. Cowan was stopped on Chestnut Street near the Iowa Power and Light plant and spent the night in Page County Jail before waiving preliminary examination.

Capping Ceremony Planned for Clarinda Junior College Nursing Class
The first practical nursing class at Clarinda Junior College will cap Jan 13 at 8 pm in the college auditorium. Former C Springs Pastor Dies on Christmas Day
The Rev John Prescott Nesbit DD 91 of Winona Lake Ind died Christmas morning after pneumonia. A longtime United Presbyterian pastor in C Springs, he served mission churches after retirement. Survived by wife Latha two sons Dr Leonard Nesbit of Anderson Ind and Dr Preston Nesbit of Arlington Tex and daughter Esther Bloomington Ind. Memorials in La Prairie Ill where he began his ministry. Burial in Speer Ill.

Families also received shoes, blankets, and new clothes while clubs held parties and dinners for the children and guardians.

Early call averts major fire Sunday
An early alarm and quick action by volunteer firemen on New Year’s Day prevented a major blaze at a car showroom in Clarinda. Louis Hammer spotted smoke at Brannen’s Super Valu and notified the department. Fire started in a partition between the showroom and shop, traced to old wiring. Damage was limited and insured. the building belonged to Henry Buch, Fred Wagoner, and the owners listed.

Death of Hiram Hill in Wyoming at 83
Special report: Hiram Hill 83 died December 14 in Carpenter Wyoming. He was the son of Arthur Hill, raised in Page County, taught at Eureka rural school, owned land, and worked in a Blanchard bank before moving west. He was married to Mayme McFarland, who died earlier. Survived by four sons Gilbert Camden in Missouri Ernest Lansdowne in Pennsylvania Harold Cheyenne Wyoming Jim and two grandsons from deceased daughters. Funeral held in Carpenter Wyoming.

The infant daughter of Merlin and Mrs Kenagy died shortly after birth. Graveside services occurred Sunday at Babyland in Clarinda Cemetery with Rev C W Woollard presiding.
